How Does One Experience Subud?

How does one get this Direct Spiritual Training?  If you live in Hawaii, email me:  directspirit@gmail.com.  We can make arrangements, probably with the local Subud group.  No special knowledge is required, but it’s best to meet beforehand.  Most people have a lot of questions, and these can be answered.  I’ve found it’s best to meet up a few times prior, then when you and I feel comfortable, and when you feel you’re ready, you can receive the direct contact. There is no cost, but there is some investment of commitment:  You’ll want to be sure you can commit to experiencing the training about twice a week for about 30 minutes each time.  Currently it’s on Wednesday nights and Saturday mornings in town (Palolo Valley).

If you live anywhere else, your best bet is to hook up with a Subud group.  You can find them in your phone directory under “Subud” if you’re in a fairly large city, or go to the Subud USA website to find out if there’s a group near you:  http://www.subudusa.org.

Aloha!

I appreciate the fact youre tring to evangelise Subud because you FEEL its the truth but its not . Its directly against the BIBLE . I was in it for 10 years so I know what I’m talking about. Most people in it have no idea its completely incompatible with BIBLICAL CHRISTIANITY. Also the fact that Subud advertises itself as having no teaching is a complete fallacy. It has many teachings and most of them are based on what BAPAK SAID and SPOKE on in HIS TALKS. Now theyre following IBU ( Bapaks daughter) because of a DREAM she had after Bapak died. ( How convenient!)She gives everyone their Subud names! ect. COME ON PEOPLE ! WAKE UP! THis is just another guru and another SPIRIT. Dont worry I know what the latihan is and I practised it powerfully for 10 years but it will lead you NOWHERE. It is a lie that it is PURIFYING YOU. Only the SPIRIT OF GOD can do that. THE HOLY SPIRIT RECEIVED THROUGH THE ONE WAY TO HEAVEN, JESUS CHRIST! There are many false prophets gone out into the world and this site is full of them . Follow the BIBLE and the BIBLE ALONE!. Believe in Christ from a sincere heart and trust in HIM ALONE FOR ETERNAL LIFE AND FREEDOM FROM SIN AND DEATH. You will all face CHRIST on the Judgement Day at the end of time. He who confesses me before men , said JESUS, him will I confess before my Father.

Nearly every sentence of your comment has logical and other errors! I’m not sure where to start, so I’ll just take it in order of appearance:

      1) I’m not trying to evangelize about Subud. I have Subud material on this blog, but most people I come into contact with don’t know my spiritual beliefs, and I don’t tell them unless they ask me. And that’s rare! In 23 years maybe about 5 people have come into Subud because of hearing about it from me. Those people made their own decision. I don’t give anyone, ever, arguments with the conclusion that they “should join Subud.” This webpage is only designed to let people know something like Subud exists, it’s not designed to convince people to join. Examine this whole site and you will not find any kind of statement that says anything like the claim “therefore you should abandon your current path and join Subud.” So, no, I’m not evangelizing.

      2) Subud is not true or false. Go back and look at critical thinking/logic. If you’re ever in Hawaii, you sign up and take the logic class I teach at the university. Only a claim (a statement) may be true or false. I’m not sure you understand this, but I won’t argue it in more detail at this time. If you want to talk about truth/falsity, then you must isolate matters of fact (not matters of opinion) and argue for or against the claim’s truth or falsity.

      3) The bible is an extensive literary document written over many hundreds (at least) of years translated and re-translated, covering a wide array of topics, beliefs, and cultures. Subud isn’t “against” the bible in any sense. The old and new testaments are the primary documents for at least Jews and several branches of Christianity, and thousands of devout Jews and Christians attend synagogue and church and do the latihan. There is no conflict. Yes, there are conflicts certain radical and fundamental interpretations of the bible, but these interpretations are closed-minded and they conflict with many different kinds of religious belief.

      4) As for Subud being a “complete fallacy” again, I refer you to critical thinking 101. A fallacy is a psychologically persuasive argument which is structurally unsound (an argument contains several elements, such as premises and conclusions and other items and requirements), so “Subud” cannot be a fallacy. Only arguments may be fallacious.

      5) The nonsense you claimed about Rahayu’s “dreams” and about Jesus Christ being the only path, is your uninformed opinion. You’re of course permitted to hold any opinion you desire. If you wanted to argue your claims, however, you’d need at least a short book to do it. However, you’ll have to do a lot of studying about religion, theology, and philosophy of science in order to properly argue it.

Some people recklessly throw themselves into Subud (or politics, or anything else for that matter) in a radical way. They do this because they’re looking for univocally-referenced and clear answers to fundamental questions about the nature of human existence. But, the answers to life are actually anything but univocal, clear, easily referenced and objective. It’s clear to me you threw yourself into Subud in this radical and reckless way, and now you’ve thrown yourself into fundamental Christianity with the same zeal. My guess, and it’s only a guess, is Subud and/or Christianity is not your problem, but you’re quest for clear laws and rules is the problem. When and if Christianity doesn’t provide them, you’re likely to move onto something else. But, if fundamental Christianity works for you and you stay with it, that’s fine and good, as long as you don’t impose on the freedom of others. Fundamentalism is a misuse of religious belief and leads to intolerance and the erroneous thinking that one has “all the answers” while other belief systems are utterly lost. This attitude is uninformed at the best, and dangerous at the worst.

      Good luck!
